The lower counties on Delaware, a separate colony within the province, constituted the same three counties that constitute the present State of Delaware: New Castle, the northernmost, Sussex, the southernmost, and Kent, which fell between New Castle and Sussex County. The type of homes built during colonial times varied greatly depending on the local resources, the region, and the wealth of the family. During the Second Continental Congress, John Dickinsons influence began to fade and more delegates sided with John Adams, including fellow Pennsylvania delegates: Benjamin Franklin, Benjamin Rush, Robert Morris, John Morton, George Clymer, James Smith, George Taylor, James Wilson, and George Ross.
